BCBS Settlement

You may have received a postcard in the mail regarding a BCBS Settlement.  The reason this was sent is that there is a class action lawsuit alleging that Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans across the country violated antitrust laws by entering into an agreement where they agreed not to compete with each other in selling health insurance. Since the Local #542 Health Fund was administered by a Blue Cross Blue Shield health plan between February 2008 and October 2020, you may be a Class Member.

To be part of the potential $120 million settlement fund created for Self-Funded Accounts and their members you need to mail the postcard which much be postmarked by November 5, 2021 or apply online at:  www.BCBSsettlement.com

Below is what the member needs to do to submit a claim for the BCBS Class Action Settlement. They need to be submitted no later than November 5, 2021:

  1. Go to BCBSsettlement.com
  2. Enter your Unique ID from the postcard.
  3. Click on” Filing for Myself”.
  4. Answer “Were you enrolled through your employer or other entity , or did you buy insurance directly from a BCBS company, or do both?”
  5. Proceed to fill out your personal information.
  6. For Health Plan Details, only the Employer/Fund name is required.
  7. For Allocation of Premiums, select either the Default Option or Alternative Contribution % of if you have all the required backup.
  8. Select from the list of how you would like to receive the settlement money.
  9. Review your information.
  10. Hit submit.

Reminders

  • The Trustees approved a SUB increase to $250 per week for December 2023 through March 2024
  • Health Center Grand Opening Mailer 2023
  • Please take note regarding the SUB fund:  You must apply for benefits within 90 days of the Saturday of the week you are first unemployed and eligible for benefits.  Subsequent claims must be made within 90 days of the week -ending for which benefits are payable.
  • The Welfare Fund has been covering CDL Physicals since the start of 2018.  Click here for the requirements for reimbursement.
  • Motor Vehicle Accidents are Not covered by the Welfare Fund.  (Please talk to your insurance agent about increasing your medical coverage.)
  • Non-spousal Dependent Maternity is not covered.
  • Let us know when you: get Married or Divorced, have a child, or move.
  • When retired, our Health & Welfare plan (if eligible) requires you and/or your spouse to have Medicare A & B when eligible.
